During June 2007, the southern coast of Pakistan was hit by cyclone
Yemyin which gave way to torrential rains throughout the region. Due
to the heavy rains in various areas of southern Pakistan, flash floods
occurred in different districts of Balochistan and Sindh Provinces.
The floods were among the worst registered in the past ten years and
an estimated 2.5 million people were affected with some 250,000 made
homeless. Many schools which were less affected by the disaster were
occupied by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who were left homeless.
Karachi Relief initiative
We gathered roughly around a 100 million rupees worth of food and basic
supplies and moved the affected out to the shelters. Our volunteers
put together survival packets containing food, basic medicines and other
survival supplies and distributed these to 2,500 families.
